FRONT ROYAL, Va. — When Avtex Fibers closed in 1989 it was considered one of the region’s most polluted hazardous waste sites, according to The Republic.
The company was cited for violating Virginia’s environmental laws with wastewater discharges into the Shenandoah River, noted the article.
Ground will be broken in a couple of weeks to construct a $30 million treatment plant to clean up the groundwater and to provide a safe home for the wildlife that now lives there, stated the article.
