Gentlemen
Last week I had an interesting conversation with a Mr. Sean Talley. He is a self reported liason with the Pentair corporation currently residing in Sarasota. I am not sure I have spelled his name correctly and am also not certain of his reporting city.
He had the courtesy to call me regarding my post here on the forum.
I must say that I am pleased to have spoken to him but am not at all happy with the information he passed on to me.
1. His assertation is that Pentair will not do anything to improve these patently disfunctional timers. I believe his quote was that the money it would take would exceed the value given to those who currently are saddled with these timers.
2. That most of the problems which occur with these timers happen in the "South" and that less than 1% of these timers are giving H.Q. any problems.
3. That he believes that 'humidity' is the cause of failure in most cases.
Frankly, I just don't believe him.
Well, actually I do in a sense. Pentair will not spend any money developing a better timer for this control valve. Each week I send three or four of them back to my wholesaler and each week we get three or four more failed timers. They no longer even bother to run credits and charges for these things. They tell me it is too time consuming to perform this paperwork. Tell me. We are the ones that have to go to our customers and change these broken timers out time after time.
We don't get paid to do this. They are under warranty.
His, Mr. Talley, suggestion was to convert all of these 440 timers to the Logix 700 series timers. O.K. that's an idea but wait a second! I don't LIKE the Logix series 700 timers. They are slow, ponderous, and more cumbersome, will take some time to convert. I will agree that they would be a better vehicle for all of my 255's, 263's and 268's out there but why should I have to be the individual to change them all out?
That takes time and we all know time is money.
What I want to know is this:
Is this strictly a problem in the 'South"
Does 'humidity' actually have any effect on the 400 series timers?
And does any one else think these folks have an obligation to fix the problem?
Cordially
