What are the size ranges of Macro, Meso and Micropores in coal based Activated Carbon in Angstroms?  Also, is Activated Carbon a polar or non-polar adsorbent?  Also: "During adsorption, the adsorbate moves from the solvent (water) to the surface of the carbon adsorbing surface to the water molecules at the surface.  Anything that will make the desired adsorbate less soluble or polar will improve adsorption.  Factors that increase the physical or chemical interaction between the adsorbate and the carbon will increase adsorption."
1. What will make the desired adsorbate (PCB) less soluble in water or polar?
2. What factors will increase the physical or chemical interaction between the adsorbate and the carbon?
3.  What is the effect of pH on adsorption?
4. How does refractive index of the adsorbate affect adsorption?
Thanks in advance.
