PEORIA, Ariz. — Recent reports by the Arizona Public Interest Research Group characterized the city of Peoria’s water supplies as unsafe because of a leak at the Palo Verde nuclear power plant, according to the Peoria Times.

The city of Peoria has responded to those reports and stated that the city’s water supply is safe and that the information is “completely misleading and untrue,” stated the release.

Brian Biesemeyer, deputy utilities director for Peoria said, “The city of Peoria water supply is secure and safe and has abundant water sources in the case of an emergency. The city uses surface water from the Salt River Project and the Central Arizona Project canal systems as a sustainable water resource. In cases of emergency or drought, the city can provide groundwater to the system in sufficient quantity to provide for our customer needs.”
