TULSA, Okla. — The city’s utility board was told that using chloramine to reduce a cancer-causing agent in drinking water may actually be harmful even though the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approves of the practice, according to Tulsa Word.

The city is considering using the chemical as a disinfectant to help meet more strict EPA regulations, stated the article.

“As many cities as you are hearing are going toward chloramination, there are as many abandoning it,” said Robert Bowcock, an environmental investigator who works with activist Erin Brockovich.
