Chevron awards Evoqua with highest safety award

Evoqua Water Technologies’ Environmental Solutions business won the Gold Award for excellent safety performance from the Chevron Corporation in El Segundo, California. The Gold Award is the highest safety award Chevron offers. This is the fourth consecutive year Evoqua has earned the honor. In order to be eligible for the award, recipients must accomplish all work at the refinery without work related injury or illness.

New York students win U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize

Rachel Chang and Ryan Thorpe, both of Manhasset, New York, won the Water Environment Federation’s 2017 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize, which is the nation’s most prestigious youth competition for water-related research. The students designed a process to detect and purify water contaminated by bacteria, which earned them the top prize of $10,000 and an all-expense paid trip to Stockholm to represent the U.S. at the international competition in August. The two U.S. runners-up were Ana Humphrey of Alexandria, Virginia, and Apoorv Khandelhal of Sammamish, Washington, each of whom received $1,000. Luca Barcelo of Greenwich, Connecticut, received the Bjorn von Euler Innovation in Water Scholarship Award from Xylem Inc.

Clean Chemistry issued new water treatment patents

Clean Chemistry received three patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the formulae, synthesis methods and use of unique oxidant chemistries. The patents cover the only known production processes for large-scale quantities of reactive oxygen species in easy-to-use liquid formulations. The patents are designed to lessen the environmental impacts of fracking and allow oil and gas companies to handle a wide range of source waters and consistently meet treatment specifications.

BIOREM announces strategic partnership with Tus-Material Group

BIOREM Inc. entered into a strategic partnership with Tus-Material Group to globally market their ultrafiltration membranes. Tus-Material Group is a subsidiary of the TUS Holdings Group, which represents companies engaged in the water, wastewater, solid waste and renewable energy sectors. With the global ultrafiltration market estimated to hit $4.6 billion in 2021, this strategic partnership is designed to help both companies diversify in order to meet anticipated demand.

Cambrian Innovation announces pilot project with U.S. Army

Cambrian Innovation is partnering with the U.S. Army to demonstrate BioVolt, a self-powered wastewater treatment system that treats wastewater with zero electrical input from the grid for aeration through newly discovered, energy-generating biological processes. The demonstrator test conducted at the Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Maryland is evaluating the system for application at forward operating bases and other off-grid locations.
