CAMDEN, Pa. — There is up to 150 million gallons of sewage pumped into the Camden wastewater treatment facility and soon it will be used to heat the facility, according to Newsworks.

The sewage is kept warm by moving through pipes that are buried 15 to 20 feet underground during the winter, stated the article.

“The idea is to convey the sewage through a heat exchanger to take advantage of the latent heat,” said Andy Kricun, executive director of the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority. “And then use that in lieu of a boiler to reduce dependence on natural gas or fuel oil.”
