SORSOGON CITY, Philippines — Ronaldo Barbono, an engineer and general manager of the Sorsogon City Water District (SCWD), announced that the city could lose its groundwater supply in five to eight years, according to a January 3 Philippine Daily Inquirer article.
Global warming, accompanied by human activities, is to blame, according to Barbono.
The SCWD’s deep wells tap groundwater for distribution to about 8,500 homes.
Barbono said measures should be taken to reduce groundwater consumption. The SCWD is exploring potential surface water sources, the article said.
