MAUI, HAWAII — Two reservoirs on the Upper Kula water system are nearly empty, causing the Maui County Department of Water Supply to reduce production at the Olinda Water Treatment Facility, an October 28 article in the Honolulu Advertiser said.
The Waikamoi Reservoir currently holds 1.1 million gallons of water, and the Kahakapao Reservoir currently holds 27.1 million gallons. The reservoirs have the capacity to hold 30 million gallons and 100 million gallons, respectively.
The Olinda Water Treatment Facility will produce only enough water to supply customers in the Olinda area, cutting production from 1.3 million gallons per day to 100,000 gallons per day.
