DENVER — The American Water Works Association, headquartered here, said in a February 26 statement that President Obama’s budget for fiscal year 2010, which he delivered on February 26, is “a delight for water eyes.”
The 2010 budget represents an increase of 34 percent in the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) budget. In his budget request, Obama is seeking $3.9 billion for improving the nation’s sewage treatment plants and drinking water systems as well as for projects to protect sources of drinking water, as WaterTech Online® reported.
It also includes $475 million for a new EPA-led collaborative effort to restore the Great Lakes and the highest-ever operating budget for core regulatory, research and enforcement activities — $3.9 billion.
AWWA said that its March 3 issue of Streamlines will include full coverage of the budget proposal. It also will review President George Bush’s fiscal year 2009 budget. The 2010 federal fiscal year will begin on October 1, 2009.
