NEW YORK — The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to mark ANSI’s acceptance as an accreditation body to participate in the EPA WaterSense Program, ANSI announced in a June press release.
EPA’s WaterSense program helps consumers to identify products that conserve water while maintaining high performance levels. Products certified by accredited certification bodies may carry a WaterSense label.
ANSI, the first accreditation body approved to perform accreditation services under the WaterSense program, announced in the release that it is launching a new pilot accreditation program for EPA-licensed certification bodies. Testing laboratories in the United States seeking to test and certify thousands of different products under various performance standards, such as NSF/ANSI standards for drinking water products, also seek accreditation from ANSI as qualified laboratories.
Applications for the pilot program will be accepted until June 30. Applications received beyond the June 30 deadline will be considered for accreditation following the completion of the pilot program.
