MILWAUKEE — Water is becoming a popular topic in this city: Organizers of “Water Summit III,” an all-day series of speeches and panel discussions scheduled here for July 20, say the event is now sold out.
It is sponsored by the Milwaukee 7 Water Council, a civic group seeking to boost the development of Milwaukee as a “hub” of business and research relating to fresh water. The summit’s theme is “Understanding the True Costs and Opportunities of Water” and will be held at The Pilot House at Discovery World, on Milwaukee’s downtown waterfront overlooking Lake Michigan.
The keynote speaker will be Assaf Barnea, CEO of Kinrot Ventures, a privately owned water technologies business incubator located in Zemach, Israel. Panel speakers will include a number of other experts in business, economic and environmental issues. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is also expected to attend.
Two previous Milwaukee Water Summits were held in 2007 and 2008. The 2007 event brought together regional leaders to start the water “hub” effort; in 2008, the summit’s theme was about growing a “blue” (water) business in a “green” world.
