PROVIDENCE, RI — Three Rhode Island communities are under a boil-water order after E. coli bacteria were detected in a sample drawn September 6 from a residential customer’s kitchen faucet, according to a September 9 EastBayRI.com report.
The boil-water order, ordered September 8 by the Rhode Island Department of Health, affects all those served by Bristol County Water Authority in Barrington, Bristol and Warren. The sample in which the bacteria were detected was one of a series of follow-up samples taken after two testing sites showed positive results for contamination, the report said.
Bristol County Water Authority Executive Director Pasquale DeLise is quoted in the report saying he believes there is “nothing in the water” and that he believes the bacteria came from the tap itself, according to EastBayRI.com.
The source of contamination is still being investigated, and the boil-water order remains in effect until the problem is corrected.
