TACOMA, WA — In estimating how much it will cost this city to comply with a federal requirement to remove Cryptosporidium from the water supply, Tacoma Water officials found that their initial figure was about $20 million too low, The News Tribune reported November 17.
Officials said they still are at least a month away from firming up the total cost because they have not finalized water treatment plant equipment purchase decisions.
The utility is considering using ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection or filtration, as WaterTech Online® reported.
Tacoma Water’s residential and business customers will see a still-to-be-determined rate increase, the story said.
