SEABROOK, NH — Officials here on November 17 broke ground on construction of a new $11 million water treatment plant that will be paid for in part by $5 million in federal stimulus funds — the largest amount of recovery act funds awarded to any project in New Hampshire, according to a November 17 New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) report.
The plan is for the plant to bring Seabrook into compliance with the federal drinking water standard for arsenic.
Of the $5 million award, half is a federal grant; the other half is a low-interest loan.
The Department of Environmental Services’ Rick Skarinka said that across the state, federal stimulus dollars are lined up to pay for 56 projects, NHPR reported.
