LANSING, MI — In an effort to revive the state’s college scholarship program, Lt. Gov. John Cherry is proposing a 10-cents-per-bottle fee on Michigan companies that sell bottled water, according to an Associated Press story.
The Dec. 14 story said the fee could bring in $118 million per year, which would be enough to restore the Michigan Promise scholarship program. Money left over would then be used for wetlands programs, according to Cherry’s office.
Cherry, who said more details of his proposed plan will be revealed soon, is being considered as a candidate to run for governor in 2010.
