ATHENS, GREECE — According to a survey released today, African nations such as Somalia, Mauritania and Sudan have the most unstable water supplies while Iceland, Norway and New Zealand have the most secure, Reuters reported.
Conducted by British consultancy firm Maplecroft, the “water security risk index” is meant to alert companies to investment risks, the article stated.
The survey of 165 countries indicated that climate change and rising populations are the biggest threats to global water supplies.
“With climate change there is going to be a greater strain on limited water resources in many nations,” said Anna Moss, author of the study.
Poor nations are not the only countries suffering from water shortages — the United States ranked 104th and Australia came in at 95th on the list, according to the story.
