ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Democratic Illinois State Sen. Susan Garrett, who chairs the Senate Health and Human Services Health Care Subcommittee, has called for the bottled water industry to be scrutinized, the Pioneer Press reported.
She has scheduled a public hearing on the safety and regulation of bottled water on Oct. 30 in Northbrook, IL, just outside of Chicago, the article said.
The hearing is a result of recent class-action lawsuits that have been filed in six states, alleging that bottled water companies are engaging in misleading advertising.
The upcoming hearing is intended to focus on the sources of bottled water, according to the paper. Data will be collected to determine if the Illinois Department of Public Health should have a greater role in overseeing bottled water as a health issue, the article said.
