More water talks and proposals await Green Bay
Friday, February 20, 2004
GREEN BAY, WI — Both cities that want to sell drinking water to Green Bay's suburbs plan to await the outcome of a financial analysis before lowering their asking prices, representatives said Thurs. Feb. 19, the Green Bay Press Gazette reported.

According to the paper, data released Feb. 18 showed that water purchased under a deal with either city would cost residents more through 2059 than water piped from Lake Michigan via a suburbs-owned-and-operated pipeline and water system.

Nilaksh Kothari, general manager of Manitowoc's water and electric utilities, will meet with Water Authority officials today to examine assumptions used to create the data that compares the estimated cost of water from Manitowoc with the cost under a competing offer from the city of Green Bay, the article stated.

Meanwhile, the paper reported, an official from a key suburb said he expects this week's talks will change the initial impression left by the data that an independent pipeline is the cheapest way to bring Lake Michigan water to residents.
