WASHINGTON — A recent report by the WWF warns of ecological impacts from the melting of Himalayan glaciers, according to a report today by Bloomberg.
The association formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund claims that the glaciers are melting rapidly as a result of global warming, and will lead to flooding and a subsequent shortage of water in the Indian subcontinent and China, the report said.
According to the article, glaciers in the region are receding 33 to 49 feet a year — a rate that is increasing as global warming rises.
Himalayan glaciers supply rivers such as the Ganges that flows into India, the Indus in Pakistan, the Yangzte in China and the Mekong that travels through Cambodia and Vietnam to the South China Sea, Bloomberg reported.
