EPA offers guidance for new DBP rules
Thursday, August 31, 2006
WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water has developed a draft of a manual intended to help water systems and states comply with the new disinfectant byproduct and surface water treatment rules, according to the document, the Simultaneous Compliance Guidance Manual (Draft) for the Final Stage 2 M-DBP Rules.

The manual does not provide legally binding requirements, but can be used by stakeholders as a source of information on compliance with the seconds stages of the regulations, according to the manual.

The EPA foresaw compliance issues with the new Stage 2 Disinfectant and Disinfection Byproducts Rule (DBPR), the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2ESWTR) and other Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) rules, the manual said.

The manual also provides tools for addressing simultaneous compliance issues and how they will affect various water systems, according to the manual.
