OMAK, WA – Rep. Cathy McMorris (R-WA) has been awarded the National Rural Water Association's (NRWA) "Green Key" to 25,000 small communities for her work to protect the country's rural water resources, according to a press release issued by the NRWA.
During the past year, McMorris worked to increase funding for rural communities in need of drinking water and sewer improvements, and helped these communities adopt programs to protect their drinking water and groundwater supplies, the release noted.
Omak Public Works Director Fred Sheldon said in the report that water quality "is often the most important and challenging component of a small community's welfare," and added McMorris has "continually stood up for small towns in Congress."
The NRWA Green Key is awarded annually to national leaders who strive to protect and improve the environment, public health and rural quality of life through water quality and safety, the release said.
