Bottled or tap, it came down to taste
Thursday, November 16, 2006
HOUSTON — A recent independent study by KTRK TV found that it all comes down to personal preference over whether bottled water is better than tap water.

Four bottled water brands — Dasani, Ozarka, Evian, and a Kroger store brand — and tap water samples were used in the study, revealing that people liked Evian the least, tap water ranked in the middle, and Dasani came out on top, the report said.

The study also tested local tap water, finding it had a 11.4 parts per billion (ppb) level of trihalomethanes, below the maximum level of 80 ppb as determined by the US Environmental Protection Agency; the bottled waters "came back clean," the story said.

University of Houston environment engineering professor Dennis Clifford said in the report, "I think both waters are safe, bottled water and municipal water supplies. And I personally drink them both. To me, it's a matter of taste and convenience."
