CHAMPLAIN, NY — Officials here are warning residents that they may want to boil their drinking water or purchase bottled water certified for sale by the state Department of Health after recent tests show coliform bacteria is present in the drinking water, according to an April 12 Press-Republican report.
Two out of six water samples this month from the village of Champlain showed the presence of coliform bacteria; a state rule says that no more than one sample may be positive in any month, according to the article.
The village will flush its water mains and follow-up samples will be collected, village officials said in the article.
About 1,200 people reside in the village, which is located in Clinton County, NY.
Every month in Water Technology Magazine, "Professor POU/POE" answers reader questions about point-of-use/point-of-entry water treatment.
If you have a question for the Professor (also known as David Bauman, Technical Editor), send an e-mail to rdipaolo@ntpmedia.com and we'll pass it along. With your question, please indicate your general location (region, state, province, etc.). Not all questions will be chosen for publication.
