Coke shareholders vote on revealing test results
Wednesday, April 18, 2007
By Susan V. Wheeler, Managing Editor

WILMINGTON, DE — Coca-Cola shareholders at their annual meeting today voted 7 percent in favor of a resolution asking Coke to disclose quality test results for its beverages, including its bottled water Dasani, Gigi Kellett, associate campaigns director for Corporate Accountability International, the nonprofit advocacy group that launched the Think Outside the Bottle Campaign, told WaterTech Online™ today.

Kellett said, "This is the first time the resolution, which was proposed by Corporate Accountability International member and Coke shareholder Allie Perry along with investment firm NorthStar Asset Management, Inc., went before the shareholders. There is a lot of momentum building around the Think Outside the Bottle Campaign."

News of the campaign was considered the most important or significant story carried by WaterTech e-News Daily™ during 2006.

The nonprofit group's campaign is making three demands on producers of bottled water, including brands by Pepsi and Nestlé: Reveal sites and sources of water used for bottling; disclose water quality information to the public because municipal water utilities are required to do so by federal regulation; and, as the group puts it, "stop undermining local control" when siting water sources and when operating water bottling plants, said Kellett.
