2013 Student Design Competition winners announced at WEFTEC 2013

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Teams from the University of South Florida and the University of British Columbia were awarded $2,500 each.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Students from the University of South Florida and the University of British Columbia were winners of the 2013 Student Design Competition by the Water Environment Federation (WEF), according to a press release.

The 12th annual competition took place as part of the 2013 Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC), the release noted.

"City of St. Petersburg Biogass Utilization Project" by The University of South Florida's team won in the wastewater design category, the release continued, while the University of British Columbia team's "Microalgae Cultivation and Harvesting: Design of Pilot Facilities at the Annacis Wastewater Academy" won in the environmental design category.

According to the release, both teams received certificates and a $2,500 award for winning the competition, which is meant to promote "real world" design experience for those interested in pursuing an education or career in water/wastewater engineering and sciences.
