2016 McEllhiney Distinguished Lecturer to present on treatment options for groundwater

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The McEllhiney Distinguished Lecture Series in Water Well Technology is named in honor of the founding president of the National Ground Water Association (NGWA).

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation (NGWREF) announced Peter S. Cartwright, PE, named the 2016 McEllhiney Distinguished Lecturer, will present “Water Well Contaminants and Treatment Options,” according to a press release.

The context of the lecture is that no two water supplies are identical, so to ensure a drinking water supply that tastes good, is safe and is acceptable for washing, showering or bathing requires a treatment approach that takes into consideration the unique variables that affect water quality, stated the release.

“Health-related contaminants such as nitrite/nitrate, arsenic and pathogenic microorganisms may be naturally occurring or the result of human activity, or both,” reported the release. “Also, the water pH, total dissolved solids, iron, hardness and other constituents may affect taste or its other properties. The challenge to the groundwater professional is how to reduce such constituents to an acceptable level.”

Cartwright’s lecture will identify various treatment technologies and discuss specific technology choices as a function of contaminant reduction efficacy and cost, continued the release, and he will also highlight treatment systems’ installation requirements, operation and maintenance.

Cartwright owns and operates Cartwright Consulting Co., with offices in the Netherlands and Minneapolis, noted the release, and since 1974 he has been in the treatment side of the water industry.
