SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The 29th Biennial Groundwater Conference this October in Sacramento will feature a special session on hydraulic fracturing, according to a press release.

The session entitled “Hydraulic Fracturing: A Threat to California’s Groundwater Resources?” will be offered on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m., according to the release.

Participants in the session will include Donald Gautier, Ph.D. of the United States Geological Survey (USGS); Mark Zoback, Ph.D., of Stanford University; Tim Kustic, State Oil & Gas Supervisor of the Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR); and Dennis O’Conner, Principal Consultant to the CA Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water, the release reported.

In California, continued the release, public concern over hydraulic fracturing has increased because of the risks it poses to the environment and water resources and its potential to trigger earthquakes, and this session will address the scientific evidence behind those concerns.
