BRYN MAWR, Pa. — Aqua America, one of the largest U.S.-based, publicly-traded water utilities, has acquired the Blacksburg Country Club wastewater system and treatment plant in Blacksburg, Va. for $135,000, according to an article by The Wall Street Journal

The system serves nearly 160 homes and a country club and Aqua plans to spend over $300,000 in improvements on the system, the article reported.

"Aqua can fix water and sewer problems because we have access to capital funds and the technical expertise to effectively apply these investments," said Aqua America chairman and CEO Nicholas DeBenedictis. "We plan to make significant improvements to ensure our new wastewater system meets all regulatory requirements, and those upgrades will translate into better service and a cleaner environment."

Aqua American currently serves almost three million residents in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, Indiana, Virginia, Florida and Georgia.
