ASHKELON, Israel — IDE Technologies’ desalination plant reached a world record of producing and delivering more than 264 billion gallons of high quality tap water.

ASHKELON, Israel — IDE Technologies announced that its Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant located in Ashkelon, recently set a world record, according to a press release.

Since the start of its operation in 2005, the desalination plant reached a world record of producing and delivering more than 264 billion gallons (one billion m3) of high quality tap water, stated the release.

The release reported that the Ashkelon-based plant, when completed, was the world’s largest, most advanced desalination plant with a capacity of approximately 87.2 million gallons per day (330,000 m3).

The desalination plant “set a new benchmark by achieving one of the world’s lowest prices for desalinated water” and in 2010, it expanded by around 20 percent, continued the release.

Throughout the past nine years, the Ashkelon plant has addressed the water needs for over one million people, noted the release.
