PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Water Resources awarded a $40,000 grant to AWQA to perform a public education and industry training program, starting in August, to reduce salinity discharges from water softeners, according to a press release.

Using softeners to minimize the use of water and salt, as well as developing practice standards for sizing, installing, programming and servicing will be included in the year-long program, noted the release.

For those completing special training sessions, certification will be provided, permitting Arizona municipalities to implement ordinances to advise or require the use of such certified professionals, stated the release.
