DENVER — Those interested may submit comments in writing until Sept. 14.

DENVER — The public can submit comments on the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) ANSI/AWWA B603-16, Standard for Permanganates, according to a press release.

AWWA defines the scope of the standard as describing "dry potassium permanganate (KMnO4) crystals, CAS No. 7722-64-7, as well as liquid sodium permanganate (NaMnO4) solutions, CAS* No. 10101-50-5, for use in the treatment of potable and reuse or reclaimed water and wastewater," stated the release. The 30-day comment period will end Sept. 14, reported the release. It could take several months for the final edition to be published, and it will become an effective "standard on the first day of the month following such publication in Journal – American Water Works Association."

The release shared that major revisions include the following:

  1. Inclusion of a definition for reclaimed water (Sec. 3)
  2. Inclusion of reclaimed water in the requirement for compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and other federal regulations (Sec. 4)
  3. Inclusion of new language in the Notice of Nonconformance (Sec. 5.6)
  4. Inclusion of a certificate of analysis in the Affidavit of Compliance (Sec. 6.3)
