AWWA, AMWA and WEF urge Congress to fund WIFIA in fiscal year 2015

Nov. 5, 2014

DENVER — Congress has passed a continuing resolution to keep the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) running until early December.

DENVER — The American Water Works Association (AWWA) announced the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA), the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and AWWA are urging members of the House and Senate appropriation committees to fully fund the new Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) pilot program in fiscal year 2015, according to a press release.

Congress has passed a continuing resolution to keep WIFIA running until early December, however the 2015 fiscal year began in Oct. 1, stated the release.

The release reported that appropriation members and staff are currently preparing budget legislation to fund WIFIA for the rest of the 2015 fiscal year, but it is possible that congress will be unable to reach an agreement on a real budget bill, possibly instead passing another continuing resolution until the new Congress assembles in January.

The organizations expressed in a letter to appropriators that Congress approved HR 3080, the bill containing WIFIA, by large margins this year, noted the release.
