DENVER — During Drinking Water Week (May 3-9), the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and water professionals around North America stressed the importance of understanding water supplies from source to tap, according to a press release.

Millions of people in North America turn on their faucets each day without giving much thought to the water, stated the release.

The release continued that discovering the answers to the following questions is a valuable part in understanding drinking water: How does water get from the initial source, through the treatment process and then out of the faucet? Which federal organizations regulate and set the laws to protect drinking water supplies? And, who are the professionals responsible for treating and distributing drinking water?

“Drinking Water Week is an important time to understand our drinking water — from source to tap,” said AWWA CEO David LaFrance. “To understand the process is to truly appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into ensuring it’s safe and distributed to millions.”

AWWA advises in the release that the best way to find out more about drinking water is by contacting your local utility.
