TEHACHAPI, Calif. — Golden Hills reported a reduction in water usage by 17 percent since April 2013, according to Tehachapinews.com.
Bill Fisher, the area’s community services district manager, said in the article Golden Hills will continue to track water use monthly. The effort to reduce usage is in response to statewide mandates by Gov. Jerry Brown to cut consumption by 25 percent over 2013.
The district restricts lawn irrigation to three days per week depending on house numbers, stated the article. Watering is not allowed on Mondays or from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Non-landscaped areas are permitted from being watered, reported the article. Carwashes must also perform a normal wash/rinse cycle using no more than 10 gallons.
Furthermore, no new pools or spas can be constructed in the region, noted the article. Violators of the rules can face fines up to $500 in addition to service shutoff.
“We've cut back about 17 percent since April 2013,” added Fisher in the article. “We used 102.686 acre feet during April 2013, compared with 84.501 this past April. We'll keep an eye on our future water use and check for any violations.”
