SAN DIEGO — A celebration to mark the start of construction of the Carlsbad Desalination Project will be held June 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the project site, according to a press release.

Attending the event will be Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall, Poseidon Resources CEO Carlos Riva, San Diego County Water Authority Board Chair Thomas Wornham, state and local elected officials, SDCWA board members, Project design/construction team (Kiewit Shea Desalination, IDE Technologies) and community supporters.

The event will be held near the plant site, on the banks of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad. Media will be provided photos of construction activity thus far and will have an opportunity to interview members of the project team. From IDE Americas, CEO Mark Lambert will be attending the event and available to respond to questions.

In order to join the event you will need to RSVP in advance  and bring a photo ID.

When completed, the facility will convert seawater into 50 million gallons of high-quality drinking water daily, meeting about 7 percent of San Diego County’s water needs.
