STOCKHOLM — The U.N. Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate assembled at its annual multistakeholder conference in Stockholm during this year’s World Water Week, according to a press release.
The event featured the release of a new white paper, “Exploring the Business Case for Corporate Action on Sanitation,” covering businesses’ roles regarding sanitation challenges, stated the release.
The release reported that more than 100 senior leaders from international businesses, U.N. agencies, the public sector, civil society and other areas attended the CEO Water Mandate’s three days of activities taking place as part of 2014 World Water Week.
The study explains that human waste around the world is one of the most significant contributors to infant and maternal mortality, poor economic growth and lack of opportunity because of its health impacts and contamination of ecosystems; each year around half a million children die from diarrhea as a result of unsafe water and poor sanitation, continued the release.
The CEO Water Mandate conference also featured discussions on business corporate water discloser and the human right to water and sanitation, noted the release.
