City breaks ground on new $16 million wastewater treatment plant

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — The new plan is part of a $65 million investment to accommodate growth in the city.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — As part of a $65 million investment to accommodate growth in Grand Island, Neb., the city has broken ground on a new $16 million wastewater treatment plant, according to 1011 Now News.

With a lot of the city’s equipment being over 50 years old, officials say this is a crucial service that impacts every person, home and business in the city, stated the article.

"Public works, wastewater treatment division – when I talk about a city on the move this is just one example of one department that's doing what it needs to do to make sure we're going to be successful as a community," said Grand Island Mayor Jay Vavricek.

Improvements to the facility include a new screening and grit removal building with odor control as well as improvements to the electrical building and flow distribution structure, noted the article.
