RUSKIN, Fla. — A construction worker was killed during an $80 million expansion project at the South County Water Treatment Plant in Ruskin Thursday when he was sucked into the sand and mud, according to an article by the Tampa Bay Times.
The man, John Rose, 54, was walking along an underground pipe with two other construction workers when the ground gave way, the article reported.
Rose's body was found late Thursday buried six to eight feet in the sand and mud, noted the article.
According to the article, rescuers used powerful microphones to listen for sounds underground and began to dig later on in the night using vacuum trucks.
Recent digging to install pipes and heavy rains were to blame for the incident, the article reported.
