NORFOLK, Va. — Partially treated wastewater was released into the Elizabeth River April 9, 2013 after a contractor damaged a tank at the treatment plant in Norfolk, Va., according to WAVY News.
Nancy Munnikhuysen with the Hampton Roads Sanitation District said a contractor working near Lamberts Point at the HRSD’s Virginia Initiative damaged the drain of a large tank that was filled with partially treated wastewater, stated the article.
Officials have asked residents in the area to avoid Elizabeth River from Lamberts Point to Lafayette River for 24 hours, noted the article.
