SFPUC applauds safety practices on WSIP jobsites

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) announced construction teams working on Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) projects since April 2009 have performed more than seven million safe working hours without lost time incidents or major injuries, according to a press release.

Compared to the national industry averages, the “Think Safety, Work Safely” approach on WSIP jobsites has enabled the construction program to attain substantially lower rates of recordable injuries and lost work times, stated the release.

The WSIP, noted the release, is about 85 percent complete with 83 projects working to replace, repair and upgrade important portions of the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System.

“Construction on the WSIP really peaked over the last five years, and some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects have been completed or brought into service,” said SFPUC Commissioner Vince Courtney. “This is very demanding work and this record is remarkable with all of the major work accomplished over the last five years.”
