Texas city to replace existing lift station

HOUSTON — Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) will design a new lift station with a pumping capacity of 500 gallons per minute in addition to a backup generator and truck turnaround for maintenance.

HOUSTON — Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) announced the city of Friendswood, Texas, has selected the firm to replace its existing Lift Station No. 18, according to a press release.

LAN will design a new lift station with a pumping capacity of 500 gallons per minute in addition to a truck turnaround and backup generator for maintenance, stated the release.

An environmental site assessment and wetland delineation will also be performed, continued the release, due to the new lift station’s proximity to a bayou.

In partnership with LAN, Friendswood will design and construct the new lift station at the existing site of Lift Station No. 18, which has reached “the end of its useful life and is below the 100-year floodplain," to avoid acquiring property and to potentially save money for the city, reported the release.

“With the new lift station, the city will have a reliable pump station with [the] capacity to serve the residential community for the foreseeable future,” said Chau Bao, P.E., LAN engineer. “Furthermore, the risk of sewage overflows leading to environmental pollution is minimized with the new lift station.”

Construction is expected to be completed in December 2015, noted the release.
