NGWREF reveals Farvolden Awards recipients

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The awards are given in honor of the late Dr. Robert N. Farvolden, a former senior science counselor for the National Ground Water Association (NGWA).

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Four students each received $1,000 from the National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation (NGWREF) in Farvolden Awards for paper or poster presentations made at the 2015 National Ground Water Association (NGWA) Groundwater Summit, held March 16-18 in San Antonio, Texas, according to a press release.

The awards are given in honor of the late Dr. Robert N. Farvolden, a former senior science counselor for NGWA and are based on the quality of the presentation, demonstrated insight on the chosen topic and the presentation’s content, including contribution to groundwater science, management, policy or engineering, stated the release.

One of this year’s recipients, Stephanie S. Wong of Baylor University located in Waco, Texas, won a Farvolden Award for the third time, previously winning the award in 2010 and 2011, continued the release.

Wong, reported the release, received this year’s award for her paper titled, “Insights into Karst Groundwater/Stream Interactions Using Dissolved Natural Radon Concentrations, Central Texas.”

The awards have been underwritten by S.S. Papadopulos & Associates Inc. since 2011, noted the release.
