World Water Council and Morocco recognize King Hassan II Great World Water Prize winner

MARSEILLE, France — TECH-INNOV Niger Director Abdou Maman received the award for an integrated and innovation solution for remote operation of irrigation.

MARSEILLE, France — TECH-INNOV Niger Director Abdou Maman received the King Hassan II Great World Water Prize by Morocco and the World Water Council, according to a press release.

Maman will be honored with $100,000 at the seventh World Water Forum’s Opening Ceremony in Daegu, Republic of Korea, on April 12, stated the release.

He received the award for an integrated and innovation solution for remote operation of irrigation, continued the release.

The TECH-INNOV Niger remote irrigation solution is a technology process allowing farmers to manage their farm irrigation systems remotely using solar panels and a mobile phone, reported the release, enabling farmers to save energy and time, increase production and income, expand the area under irrigation and streamline the management of irrigation water.

The remote irrigation system is composed of a solar pump, a small solar station, a water distribution network and a mobile telephone, noted the release.

“This King Hassan II Great World Water Prize honors the work of Mr. Maman, who is the perfect example of social entrepreneurship; he serves his community and is at the heart of a dynamic local economy,” said Charafat El Yedri Afailal, deputy minister for water at the Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and the Environment. “The TECH-INNOV Niger solution is innovative and combines sustainable development and technology in the fight against poverty. It corresponds perfectly to the values of the Kingdom of Morocco in terms of the protection and sustainable management of water resources.”
