MUSCATINE, Iowa — The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) has honored Stanley Consultants with an Engineering Excellence Honor Award for the design of the West Side Diversion Tunnel in Davenport, Iowa, according to a press release.
The award was presented at ACEC’s annual awards gala on April 22 in Washington, D.C., stated the release.
ACEC’s Engineering Excellence Awards competition honors the “most outstanding project achievements in the field of engineering around the world,” continued the release, and projects are judged based on innovation, originality, public value and the engineering professional, social and economic considerations, complexity, exceeding the clients’ needs and sustainability.
“We are honored by the recognition from ACEC and thankful to have played a role in a project so vital to the future of Davenport,” said Stanley Consultants President and CEO Gayle Roberts.
The $42 million tunnel, a 3.1-mile sanitary sewer line, runs from close to the Mississippi River through Davenport to underdeveloped areas in the northeast part of the city, reported the release.
The project is considered Davenport’s biggest public works project in years and has also been called the city’s “most significant, long-term economic development project,” noted the release.
