Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association publishes first EPD for water and sewer piping

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Verified by NSF International and developed in compliance with international environmental management guidelines (ISO 14025), the environmental product declaration (EPA) benchmarks the impacts of seven PVC pipe products across their life cycles.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The first North American, industrywide environmental product declaration (EPD) for water and sewer piping has been published by the Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association (PVCPA) and verified by NSF International, according to a press release.

Developed in compliance with international environmental management guidelines (ISO 14025), the EPD benchmarks the impacts of seven PVC pipe products across their life cycles, stated the release.

This includes PVC pressure pipes for potable water, sewer force main systems, reclaimed water and PVC nonpressure pipes for stormwater and sanitary sewer systems, continued the release.

The life cycle assessment and EPD documents were reviewed and verified by NSF International to ensure that “no unsubstantiated claims were made and the EPD followed all applicable rules," reported the release.

“The PVCPA environmental product declaration provides transparent environmental impact data that is essential for builders and municipalities sourcing products in accordance with their green building goals,” said Amber Dzikowicz, business unit manager, Sustainability, NSF International. “Having their EPD verified by an independent third-party organization like NSF International lends credibility and trust to their report and is an industry best practice.”
