Movers & Shakers industry news include The Water Environment Federation (WEF) announcing the 11 WEF Fellows for 2017.

Dow Microbial Control obtains Canadian oil and gas approvals

Dow Microbial Control, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, launched the first Pest Management Regulatory Agency-approved label for biocides for use in offshore oil and gas operations. Product labels have been updated to reflect which biocides can now be used in offshore operations. In addition to being compliant with regulations for offshore use, Dow’s product portfolio also qualifies for gold or silver ratings under standard environment assessment models.

Pentair to separate company

Pentair plc’s board of directors announced a plan to divide the company into two independent, publicly traded companies. The company’s water business will retain the Pentair name and ticker symbol. The electrical business will be spun off to shareholders. Pentair earned sales of about $2.8 billion last year. Its water business is focused on sustainable water and fluid processing applications.

Clean Chemistry announces EPA biocide registration

Clean Chemistry’s patented PeroxyMAX chemistry has received the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) biocide registration, a safer, more efficient chemical with less toxic byproducts than the traditional chlorine chemistries. PeroxyMAX is already used extensively in upstream water management in the oil and gas sector. The new biocide registration, under the EPA Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act enables Clean Chemistry to tap into a $10 billion market to help solve a much broader variety of microbial control problems in various industrial processes.
