EDINA, Minn. — The largest municipal desalination plant in Spain will use ultrafiltration technology from Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS), according to a press release.
The plant, Maspalomas I, located in Gran Canaria, will operate with pressurized ultrafiltration as a pretreatment, to help meet the growing demand for potable water in the Canary Islands, the release reported.
According to the release, DOW's IntegraPac™ Ultrafiltration IP-77 skids and DOW FILMTEC™ Reverse Osmosis membranes will be used in the facility.
Freshwater is a scarce resource on the island of Gran Canaria, the release noted, because of low levels of annual rainfall, but desalination plants like Maspalomas I take advantage of the seawater surrounding the island.
