EPA grants $26 million for Arizona water projects

SAN FRANCISCO — WIFA of Arizona will use the grants toward water infrastructure and water pollution projects.

SAN FRANCISCO — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a total of $26 million to the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) of Arizona for water-related projects, according to a press release on the EPA website.

A $9 million grant will go toward the state's Clean Water State Revolving Fund and a nearly $17 million grant will go toward water pollution and drinking water infrastructure projects through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, the release reported.

"In the last 26 years, EPA has provided over $560 million in funding for Arizona water projects," said Jared Blumenfeld, EPA’s regional administrator for the Pacific Southwest. “Without this investment at the federal level, many communities would not be able to satisfy Arizonans’ basic needs for clean, safe drinking water and proper wastewater treatment.”

The funds will go toward low-cost loans for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades from WIFA, according to the release.
