MINNEAPOLIS — A group of Minnesota organizations has arranged the first State of Water conference, what is hoped to become a biennial event, for May 1 and 2, according to an article by the Star Tribune.

The 2014 State of Water conference will bring together many agencies that protect Minnesota waters and involve a dialogue about the future of water in Minnesota, the article noted.

Minnesota faces threats from aquatic species, expanding mining, agriculture and development and must create a roadmap to address these issues, the article reported.

Speakers from the Department of Natural Resources, Pollution Control Agency and Board of Water and Soil Resources as well as a number of lake and river organizations will take part in the two-day summit, continued the article.

According to the article, co-sponsors of the event are the Freshwater Society, the Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the University of Minnesota Extension, the Midwest Glacial Lakes Partnership and Conservation Minnesota.
